power walk with a pal when she pulled out her iPhone to announce we'd walked five kilometres, 172 metres of it uphill and we burned close to 300 calories.

I was getting similar information delivered to the Pebble watch I was wearing. It was like having a coach right alongside to note that our pace was slackening as we slogged uphill.

It could be an app, a watch, a smartphone, glasses, a pocket gadget, a tag on your shoe or a combination of software and wirelessly connected devices. No longer is it enough to just get up off the couch and step on a scale to see if your fitness efforts are burning off the pounds or building muscle. There's a gadget and an replica oakleys cheap app for every activity.

They measure, they track, they push you to goals, they celebrate successes and they'll share it with your friends, coaches, or the entire online world. It's like having your own digital drill sergeant.

The latest even checks your metabolism.

It's a cheap oakley sunglasses fast growing market and most recently Apple fake oakleys stepped into it with its new iPhone 5S that has added the M7 'motion coprocessor' that makes for sophisticated tracking of your movement. Apple's longterm partner in the fitness work, Nike has created its new Nike Plus Move app for the new iPhone.

Samsung was ahead of Apple in the health and fitness field with its S Health app that can be used alone as a fitness and motion monitor and also syncs with external sensors and monitors and such devices as the Fitbit.

Here's our digital guide to gadgets and software that will help you find fitness and health.

This is the latest and possibly the most elegant of the wearable fitness monitors. After raising close to $850,000 on Indiegogo, far surpassing its $100,000 goal, the Misfit Shine launched through Apple stores this summer. Like the competition, it tracks activity, calories burned and it even tracks sleep. From the makers of Jawbone Bluetooth wireless headsets and speakers, a fitness tracking wristband and app system that works with a number of health and fitness apps to give you a monitor tailored to your needs. The company recently raised US$100 million in new financing, with $93 million of that in debt financing as it rushes to meet growing demand in the wearable devices market. It works with Apple and Android apps and scores high on the design scale, coiling around your wrist with a choice of three sizes and eight colours.

This is a pioneer in wearable fitness tracking devices and you're as likely to see it peeking out from under a cuff linked shirtsleeve as on the wrist of the person next to you in Zoomba class. It measures the steps take and the energy it takes to get there. You set targets and that can be a great incentive to walk, run or take the stairs instead of taking the couch potato route. It syncs with a mobile app, letting you track your progress and impress your friends another incentive to keep moving, you don't want everyone to know you spent the day watching Netflix and eating chips.

Fitbit started out as a little gadget that you'd clip on to carry around but like the FuelBand, it's now available as a bracelet the Flex. You now have a choice of three different versions, the Flex, the Fitbit One, which like the flex tracks activity plus sleep and even wakes you up in the morning to get started on all that healthy living.

And there's the Zip, which tracks activity, but not sleep. Like the FuelBand and other wearable monitors, Fitbits will synch with your smartphone and other computing devices.

Basis fitness and sleep watch, US$199

Only available in the US now although I've never met an early adopter who let that get in the way of acquiring the latest tech gadget the Basis monitors everything from your heart rate, to perspiration, skin temperature and even sleep. Here's a company that understands tracking your activity has to extend to the dinner table if it's really going to be effective at keeping you fit and trim. The tracker clips to a belt or you can tuck it in a pocket to measure your steps, distance, workout times and the calories you've burned. And if you're tempted by all that activity to gulp down dinner, there's the HAPIfork, a gadget that reminds you to fake oakleys outlet slow down and savour that food. If you're eating too fast, it'll alert you with a light.

They work with iPhone, Android and Windows apps. The wirelessly connected fork was launched with a Kickstarter campaign that raised almost $135,000, topping its $100,000 goal.

It's perhaps fitting that a device for serious sports performance monitoring has come out of Vancouver, where on any given day its seems like the entire population runs 10K before breakfast or at the very least, cycles to work. A wearable computer, somewhat like Google fake oakleys Glass, it is geared for athletes who want to have all sorts of monitoring information not at their fingertips but more conveniently right in front of their eye as they bike, run or otherwise leave their more sedentary neighbors in the dust. Add to that such features as SMS alerts and caller ID and it's much like having an extremely miniaturized smartphone screen right where you can see it.

Amiigo Fitness Bracelet for Android and iPhone, price expected to be US$125

Another wearable fitness device that was met with enthusiasm during its recent crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, the Amiigo is still a work in progress but Indiegogo backers are expected to have their Amiigos by mid October. Presumably sales will start sometime after that. It tracks a wide range of health, fitness and sports performance indicators, including the basics such as duration, speed and intensity, calories burned and it also tracks heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature and others.

Breezing Portable Metabolism Tracker, US$250

While it's easy to blame slow metabolism for our diet failures, the Breezing actually gives you a measurement of your metabolism, making it possible to figure out exactly how many calories and how much exercise you need to lose those pounds or gain weight. The subject of oakleys outlet an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, Breezing uses indirect calorimetry to measure your resting energy expenditure (REE) and to figure out how much energy your body is burning and whether its carbs, fats.

While this isn a gadget but an app, I adding the Spark Motion app as number 11 on the 10 gadgets lists since it another interesting tool for serious training. The Spark Motion app is being used by Craig Alexander, the Australian triathlete who is a three time Ironman Triathlon World Champion as well as by Olympians and other athletes wanting to improve their technique. It's also used by coaches and it comes in three versions so whether you're just dabbling, coaching kids' T ball or you're at the Olympic level, there's a Spark Motion app for that. The Lite, a one cheap fake oakleys time $9.99 buy is for the iPhone and it lets you record video on your phone or import it from your camera roll and study it with motion analysis tools. Spark Basic, also at $9.99, an iPad app lets you do the same motion analysis as the iPhone version and also.

Spark Pro, at $5.99 a month (with a free 30 day trial fake oakley sunglasses so you can see if it's worth paying a monthly fee) is for coaches and trainers, who can record video with their iPad and analyse the data and they can also analyse videos that are in various video formats for analysis and cloud storage. Unlike the basic and lite, the Pro version has 30 gigabtyes of cloud storage per iPad and it has file management.
